1. Goldband Snapper (Anggoli Snapper)
Goldband Snapper (its scientific name is often associated with the genus Pristipomoides, such as Pristipomoides multidens or Pristipomoides typus) is a type of snapper that has certain characteristics:

a. Appearance:

  • The tail fin is often yellowish.
  • The size can reach quite large, with specimens usually found around 75-80 cm.

b. Meat:

  • The meat is white with a soft texture. Goldband Snapper is often considered to have a savory and delicious taste, making it a favorite for export to various countries.

c. Habitat:

  • Generally lives in deep sea waters, often found in coral reef areas.

2. "Other White Fish"
The term "white fish" refers to fish that have white flesh when cooked. This can include various types of fish, both freshwater and saltwater. Some examples of "white fish" that are common in Indonesia include:

a. White Snapper (Barramundi/Giant Sea Bass - Lates calcarifer):

  • Unlike Goldband Snapper, white snapper has skin that is generally blackish white and its flesh is also white.
  • The body shape is flat, slender, and elongated.
  • Can live in seawater, brackish water, to fresh water (catadromous).
  • The taste of white snapper tends to be sweeter than red snapper.

b. Patin Fish (Pangasius spp.):

  • Especially popular freshwater fish.
  • The meat is white, soft, and has a fat content that varies depending on the type (for example, Siamese Patin has white meat and low fat).
  • Often cultivated.

c. White Pomfret (Pampus argenteus):

  • Sea fish with a flat body and silvery color.
  • The meat is white and soft.

d. Cod Fish (Gadus morhua):

  • Although not native to Indonesia, cod is a classic example of a white fish that is very popular in the world.
  • Its flesh is white, soft, and has a savory sweet taste.
  • Dori Fish/Patin Dori (often referring to Pangasius fish fillets or sometimes John Dory):
  • Its flesh is white and has a very soft texture, suitable for filleting.

In short, Goldband Snapper is a specific type of snapper that can be identified by its golden color and tends to live in deep sea waters. Meanwhile, "other white fish" is a broad category that includes many species of fish with white flesh, each with its own characteristics and habitat.
